She was born March 1, 1940 and educated at King Edward's, Birmingham, where she was awarded a free place, and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford where she read PPE. After training in Personnel Management at the London School of Economics and after working in the international department of a bank in Zurich, she returned to look after her mother in her last illness. She now holds a post in the Personnel Department of the National Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Group Headquaters in Stratford-upon-Avon.
